Euro 2004 was won by the original Stoke City, Greece. It would have been a fairytale underdog victory if watching Greece wasn't like bobbing for apples in acid. They beat Portugal in the final in a mind-knumbing 1-0 victory, making the finale to an otherwise good tournament a complete anti-climax.. England lost on penalty kicks, as usual. It was notable for being an international tournament where players like Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo actually played well, back before they had much expectation on them. It was still better than any World Cup of the last ten years.
