Jan koller

Jan Koller[]

Jan Koller (born 30 March 1973 in Smetanova Lhota) is an amiable giant who was lured into captivity and forced to play for the Czech Republic.

A freak of nature blessed and cursed in equal measure by gargantuan stature, Koller snubbed a bright future as a lighthouse to become a footballer.

Despite starting life as a goalkeeper, a young Jan truly made his name as a striker at Sparta Prague. As tall as most bungalows and just as solidly built, Koller was almost unmarkable and became the Czech Republic’s all-time leading goal scorer.

At Euro 2004, Koller linked up with enigmatic dog-like marksman Milan Baros and enigmatic dog-like winger Pavel Nedved to devastating effect as the Czech Republic dark horses reached the semi-finals playing the best football of the competition.

He also featured at Euro 2000, World Cup 2006 and Euro 2008 before retiring from the international game to focus on his club career and his second job of holding up the sky on his mighty shoulders.
