Trifon Ivanov[]
Former Bulgarian international Trifon Ivanov (born July 27, 1965 in Veliko Tarnovo) really was a lot like a wolf – a wolf that could hit a free-kick from 45 yards.
A fairly decent wing-back, Ivanov enjoyed a creditable career and was part of the Bulgaria side that unrealistically finished fourth in the 1994 World Cup, dumping Germany out at the quarter-final stage.
However, the rugged defender will be best remembered for looking more like a wolf than any other man ever has, including Michael J Fox in 1985 film ‘Teen Wolf’, darts professional Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams and ex-Wolfsburg manager Wolfgang Wolf.
Ivanov also made a name for himself at major tournaments by having a shy from anywhere up to 95 metres out with free-kicks.
Unlike lesser players, Ivanov would regularly test a baffled opposition goalkeeper to whom the feral defender was just a spot on the horizon.
Lookalikes[]
Ivanov looked a fair amount like darts man mountain Andy ‘the Viking’ Fordham.
